Genesis 21

Guess what?  God keeps his promises.

God promised Abraham and Sarah a son, despite the fact that she'd always been barren and was now well past the age of childbearing.  God had promised to make Ishmael a great nation, despite the fact that he and his mother were now preparing to die in the desert.  God had promised the entire land of Canaan as an inheritance for Abraham, despite the fact that the servants of a petty king were stealing the few improvements he'd made there.

God kept every one of those promises.

For Abraham and Sarah, the answer was a miraculous opening of the womb.  For Hagar and Ishmael, the answer was a miraculous rescue and a further promise of provision.  For the situation with the wells, the answer was a gracious negotiation with a king Abraham had already wronged, but who had proven himself honorable and God-fearing.

None of these events are what we would expect; all of them have the fingerprints of God all over them.
